Ameresco SUNEL Named Presenting Partner of BCL Season X

On the evening of Monday, October 13, SUNEL Group hosted an event in central Athens, where it presented its sustainability strategy and the implementation of innovative clean energy solutions in sports through its newly established entity, The Green Alliance.

The initiative aims to create a European ecosystem of collaboration among companies, sports organizations, and institutional stakeholders, united by a common vision to accelerate the green transition.

The event opened with remarks by the Deputy Minister of Sports, Mr. Giannis Vroutsis, who referred to the government’s initiatives for the energy upgrade of sports facilities, highlighting the importance of transitioning sports operations toward more sustainable models. He also congratulated SUNEL Group for its contribution to bridging the energy sector with the world of sports.

SUNEL Group CEO, Mr. Konstantinos Zygouras, presented the company’s growth trajectory and its strategic roadmap for the coming years, focusing on a substantial increase in renewable energy generation projects, the expansion of activities in energy storage and energy efficiency, and the company’s entry into new areas such as wind energy. He also underlined the pivotal role of SUNEL’s partnership with Ameresco, stating that the company’s vision is “to bring energy, innovation, and sports onto the same team – united by a common goal of progress.”

During his address, Mr. Zygouras also referred to SUNEL’s new strategic partnership with the Basketball Champions League (BCL), under which Ameresco SUNEL serves as the Presenting Partner of Season X. He emphasized that this collaboration marks a significant step forward in promoting sustainability and clean energy across European sports, combining SUNEL’s expertise in renewable energy solutions with the international reach and prestige of the Basketball Champions League.

Mr. Zygouras went on to present the ongoing transformation of SUNEL Arena, which is being redeveloped into a multi-dimensional destination for experiences – a venue for sports events, concerts, festivals, and conferences – aiming to become Greece’s first green Olympic property with a zero-carbon footprint.

The evening continued with the official unveiling of AEK BC’s new jersey for the 2025–2026 season, marking a new milestone in the partnership between the team and SUNEL. Following the renaming of the Ano Liosia Olympic Hall to SUNEL Arena, SUNEL now serves as Platinum Sponsor of AEK BC for the current season. The company’s logo appears prominently on the front of the jersey, while “The Green Alliance” is featured on the back.

The new jerseys were presented by players Kuzminskas, Katsivelis, Arsenopoulos, and Bartley, followed by a short address by AEK BC Major Shareholder, Mr. Makis Angelopoulos, who highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership with SUNEL and the shared commitment of both sides to advancing a more sustainable future in sports.
